WHAT
IS IT? |
Satan
Macnuggit Popular Arts is dedicated to the production, distribution
and exhibition of creative, socially engaged, and radically
independent media, including film and video, zines and music. |
| WHY
IS IT? |
Satan
Macnuggit was founded and continues to run on the conviction
that mainstream modes of media production are corrupt and inadequate
to the needs of both artists and audiences. Through our own
work, and through building connections among independent-minded
creators and viewers, we aim to experiment with new strategies
for overcoming the hegemony of 'mass' media, and to kick ass
while doing so. |
| WHO
IS IT? |
From
1996 to 1998 Satan Macnuggit was the label of punk band Loogan
Bin - Jonathan Culp, Cameron Clow and Laura Lee Petty. After
the band broke up, the label was resuscitated in '99 by Culp
and Siue Moffat, becoming a video and zine distro featuring
the work of Meesoo Lee, Amy Lockhart, Scott Treleaven, Flick
Harrison, TVAC, Glen Sanford and others. In 2003 the 'Recycled
Cinema' Video Road Show saw Wendy Banks and Rose Bianchini join
the team (Wendy also designed the most excellent first version
of this web site). The distro ceased operation in 2004, and
since then Jonathan has been running Satan Macnuggit on his
own, as a vehicle for his varied media arts work. |

| HOW
IS IT? |
Satan
Macnuggit is an unincorporated, unsponsored entity with no interest
in the rhetoric of enterprise - we just like to make stuff,
and to get it out there. This web site is intended to share
our work, for free, with as many people as possible. We'd do
it anyway, but it is definitely made easier by the generosity
of individuals who choose to purchase
a high-quality DVD, CD or zine. In the absence of corporate
or state funding, it's community support that keeps us going.
Either way, have fun and let us know what you think! |
| AND
ONE MORE THING... |
The
story of how Satan Macnuggit got its name is so boring and anticlimactic,
we absolutely refuse to tell it any more. If you have a story
that is more interesting than reality, send it along. If we
like it, there will be treats. |
